Until Danny Way built the first Mega Ramp in 2002, skateboard ramps hadn't evolved since the invention of the halfpipe decades earlier. Today's Mega Ramps consist of a roll-in, a gap and a quarterpipe, rise 90 feet high and cover the area of the football field. The X-Games took notice of the Mega Ramp in 2004, featuring the first Mega Ramp style event in its Big Air competition, now a crowd favorite. Mega Ramps also make natural venues for breaking records. In 2005, Danny Way cleared the Great Wall of China using a Mega Ramp and set several records. Bob Burnquist landed the first front flip over the gap in 2006. Jake "Unbreakable" Brown earned his nickname after walking away from a 50 foot fall in the quarterpipe during the 2007 X-Games. While skateboarding continues to evolve, the Mega Ramp is here to stay.
